Good morning. New here with my new 2002 Evinrude Ficht 150 HP. Had the boat about a month and have still not got it to run correctly.
Set of new spark plugs and some fuel additives took care of the check engine light. But as soon as I took care of that, I started getting a HOT light when I got the boat on plane (3000rpm or higher) when I backed down to idle the light went off.
So I start with the obvious and clear debris from intake. Light still came on. Next step was to replace the impeller assembly. Did that and still got the HOT light when getting up on plane.
Next I decided to change the thermostats. I thought I discovered the problem with two of the three thermostats stuck open and full of seaweed.
After changing the 3 thermos I took out again and still got a HOT light when getting on plane. Next I changed the ET sensor but when I tested it after that something strang happened. Usually the HOT light only came on when getting up on plane , but this time it came right on s soon as I started the motor. I pulled off the cover and the light went off.
So I decided to run the motor with the cover off to try and seee where the motor was running hot. I used my laser thermometer and could not find any spot hotter that 120 on the engine.
The boat ran fine with the engine cover off but as on as I put the cover back on the light came back on.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
Dan
