Well at the 200 hour mark I decided to check out a few things getting ready for summer activities, so I check the oil and yep it's VERY HIGH! first time I'v had this issue in the 12 or so years I've had the boat. So I pull the thermostat and sure enough STUCK OPEN.

Is it everyone's consensus that this will cause and engine to "Make Oil"?

Also and I doubt it but I'll ask anyway...is it better to replace with a hotter thermostat? I think OEM is 50C but there may be a 60C option I could go with????

Yes, a thermostat stuck open will contribute to the making oil issue.

If you troll a lot, idle a bit, run in cold waters, etc. it can be desirable to install the 60 degree thermostat.

Thanks, being in Southern Louisiana the water is usually quite warm, however that last big trip I made, and when I suspect most of the "oil was made" was on the MS river in January and the water was VERY COLD! I have ordered the 50C thermostat, the first one worked for me since it was new so why mess up a good thing right.

I dropped the oil yesterday...looked pretty bad, I'm concerned it may have had a little water in it as well!
