getting ready to water test my "new" boat w/ a single 2002 F225. couple more quick questions-

1. suggestions on best manual to buy? i probably won't do much maintenance on this beast myself, but want a general understanding of the engine and it's requirements, and some troubleshooting info.

2. if it has 230 hrs on it, what standard maintenance should have been performed to date? i'll be reviewing all service records, want to know what i should see other than winterizing and commissioning each yr.

3. what's the recommended max rpm range?

4. understanding that compression should be equal among all cylinders, what should that number be for a well maintained engine?

5. anything else i should notice when this thing is running? never operated a 4-stroke or yammy before. do they have any quirks or something they don't do? anything i could catch as a possible problem?

thanks all-

Re: 2002 F225- more ???

has the 2 throttle mods been done< has the regulator/driver mod been done if needed? the maint steps for the 200hr OR annual maint is outlined in the service manual and the tech guide . the 200 OR annual maint is extensive but not as extensive as the 400 OR 2 year maint.if its all done they go a long time. if its gundecked they start having the same neglect issues and failures of the two stroke.
its more expensive to maintain than a two stroke but I have some in service with over 4000 hours.

buy the yamaha factory shop manual
the engine should get to 6000rpm or close
the f225 doesnt make smoke and its kinda hard
to hear running at idle, heh.
take the model/serial number to a dealer and ask for a warranty work performed printout.
