Hello, Our 2002 merc 115hp EFI dies when its warmed up, and you shift from neutral into gear.
Starts every time when cold, after she warms up and we put it in idle, pull a crab pot, then put in gear she dies.
New, fuel, water separators, fuel lines,on engine fuel filters, gear lube, engine oil, filter ,plugs test good,
The motors run great all the time, we have twins, and the other motor died for the first time today.
Could it be vapor lock, there's a fuel cooler on the motor ? Anything else we can do for vapor lock?
Buying a code reading light next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

4 stroke motor, electronic fuel injectors,no oil in the gas I think I read in the manual somewhere its a wasted spark ignition..
Thanks for your reply flyingscott.

Efi motors generally do not have a problem with vapor lock. If the motors run off of a common tank I would check the fuel Especially since they are both doing it.

We emptied the tank completely, when we bought the boat, all new gas with bio-bor, stabil marine 360, the fuel is clean and new Costco gas.
Its something else going on, the boats a beast, maybe yams arn't the best outboards ?
It happens more on hot days,it was very hot last crabbing day, it didn't die on a cold day boating once.
When the motor dies , you can turn the key immediately and she starts right back up. weird.
Vapor lock, low pressure fuel pump, the fuel cooler is plugged, how could the filter on the high pressure fuel pump be blocked if she runs like a beast. Water in the vapor separator ? The light to read the codes is on the way, I bet it says everything's fine and dandy.

Change the impeller as it has a fuel cooler on it and it may be partially stopped up........

Faztbullet, thanks for your reply, we changed the impeller first thing when we bought the boat. But the fuel cooler may be partially stopped up is interesting, I will check all the hoses are clear going to and from the cooler, thanks.
I will check the shift switch too.
