Does any one know why my smart craft rev limiter kicks in at 5750 RPMS? For a 225 bthis seems low. What are the max rpms for a 2oo2 mer 225 efi? How do i reprogram or adjust the limiter ? Thanks-d

that is the max rpm that the mercury engineers have decided is safe for this engine. the rpm limiter is not adjustable. just curious why the need for more rpms?

I am not dissatisfied with the performance, merctech, the motor reaches the rev limiter very easily, pushes my basscat cougar about 73-75mph, seems like it would go considerably faster with a couple thousand more rpms. Also I had a 94 merc xri 175 horse that would wind up to about 6000 rpms, so why the low limit on the newer model  , doesnt merc have confidence in thier product?

yes mercury has confidance in there engine. this engine is a larger displacement engine and make more horsepower and torque in a lower power band. it is done making power by 5750. if you are hitting the rpm limiter you are under proped. try a larger pitch prop of the same design, you should see a decrease in rpms of aprox. 200-300 per inch of pitch increase. engine rpms do not make a boat faster, the amount of water that the prop moves is what propels the boat. more horse-power means a larger prop can move more water at the same prop shaft speed as a smaller engine turning a smaller prop at the same prop shaft speed.

I mean no disrespect, but wouldnt turning the prop I have now a couple thousand times more a minute displace more water thus making my boat faster as well? I agree that the boat is under propped maybe a 27 pitch would help. I talked to a few marina owners that say that 2002 merc efi max rpms are 6100, and that merc sets the limiter to reduce warranty claims and emissions? Again I am no mechanic (I think this is obvious) and I appreciate your help merctech.-Gug
