Hi. I'm having an issue with my Mercruiser 5.0 EFI. It left me dead in the water yesterday.

I was cruising along when the power started cutting in and out It did this for about 15 seconds then came right down to idle speed even with the throttle pushed all the way. It came down to idle and ran rough at very low rpm for about 10 seconds then died. It would not fire back up after that.

I took off the flame arrestor and it's still getting gas when I crank but will not fire at all. Engine was not over heating, oil pressure was good. It seems to be getting no spark I'd imagine.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

check for spark.

may be the pickup in the dizzy. I had mine go out on my 2002 and it left me stranded.

A new Cap and rotor fixed it (the old rotor was cracked down the base). After I put the new parts on the cap and rotor are making a ticking noise that isn't normal, it's like the rotor shaft isn't aligned properly making the noise. I think this is what caused my old one to fail. Any ideas?

Is there a certain way to install the cap and rotor to make it aligned properly? I installed it the way it came off and it screwed in fine
