I was on the water a few weeks ago and the boat was running great for about 2 hours. I shut the motor down for about 5 minutes and then started it up and ran fine for about 15-20 seconds. The motor then rumbled to a stop and would not start. The motor was locked. I thought it was hydro locked (there was water in the cylinders -- that's another issue), but with more investigation it appears to be the outdrive causing an issue.
I removed the plugs and turned over the motor with the starter and the motor would make a few revolutions and lock up. It would lock up in neutral and in forward. It did not make a difference.
I removed the outdrive and the motor turns freely now. What could be causing this issue?
