I have a 2002 Mercury 115 4-stroke. Over the weekend I was out for a family cruise at the lake, I was at about 3500 RPM and was trimming out to get the bow up a little in the heavy chop. When I reached full trim the motor dropped the RPMS down to almost idle. Once I let off the trim button the motor returned to 3500 RPMs and it never did it again. I have noticed a couple of other incidences where my RPMs would drop when tilting the motor, even at lower RPMS/ speeds. Could this be a battery issue or something in the wiring/ short? The battery is about three years old and I've noticed that it does not hold a charge as well as it used to.

Gonna guess wiring has been chafed at some point in time and when you get it just right it shorts out somehow. Would explain the nature of your complaint and it being intermittent.

Obviously the place to look is at the wiring that moves when you trim the engine....right in front of the engine is a good place to start.
