I've tried searching for other similar topics but I haven't been successful, so I thought I'd see what you all think. If I incorrectly searched and this has been posted previously, I apologize for the redundancy.

I have a 2002 Volvo Penta 4.3 Gxi. I had a small leak in the raw water pump,so I i opted to repair vs. replace whole pump.
I purchased a kit and replaced the following parts:
large thin Rubber seal around the impeller outer housing, the impeller (I matched old impeller and new one and they were identical from diamenter, to
fin size and height.) , the pressed bearings and the small seated seal where the impeller fits.
I had a knowledgeable person who works on boats oversee this replacement it all came apart and back together without issue....however, now I am not getting any water out the outdrive with the muffs on it and obviously temp is thru the roof.

I took apart the two hoses going to the w.pump after the repair and they were full of water. I get a high temp alarm at 180 degrees but no water is being pushed thru motor so that makes sense.
It seems like I have an air lock somewhere or the pump needs to be primed but I'm not sure how to clear it. I'm thinking if I have water at both intake/outflow from pump water must be getting to it right?? bc both of these hoses drained when I started the repair so there was no water left in the lines, so if they fill now w/ muffs, water is getting to the pump, but why isnt it circulating? No wear on new impellar when I check it.

I'm sure its something simple, but i'm new to boating and repairs so I'd appreciate any input you all have.
thanks.

I took careful note when deinstalling and the way the hoses are mounted with a bracket to keep them together, I'd be hard pressed to mix them up. they match up exactly to the rw pump.
is there an easy way to tell based on the raw water pump, which hose should go where?

Check your pump cover o-ring and make sure you do not have two O rings in the grove( old one and new one) and/or make sure that if only one there that it is not pinched or misaligned.

Many have reversed these hoses and had your same problem.. The pump is self priming and the system itself does not need to be bled. It also doesn't take long to fill up either so if it got to 180 with no water coming out did you also burn an exhaust hose/boot in the process? I would double check the hoses and ensure the impeller hub and splines are good. I had an issue couple years back when I had just changed my impeller and I would get water on the muffs for about 5 min then the water would quit. Messed around with it for several days. New impeller looked fine. Put in yet another and the problem was solved. Summary: Check the hoses, replace the impeller. ensure no leaks. Good luck.
