Hi all,

I have a 2002 VP 5.0L GXI-B MPI that has long starts. I have Diacom software that indicates no 7,24 or 58x sensor present, no fault codes.

My question... is that an indication of a bad sensor? what are the symptoms of a bad sensor.

Thanks, I appreciate your help

Hi Tom,

I'm having a similar problem with my 5.0 GXi B. Have you tried to change the IAC sensor? Initially I had long starts on first start up, however a new IAC solved that problem. Is there a problem with hot starts too?

It turned out to be a bad distributor cap. The camshaft retard was way off, which burned up the rotor & cap. The engine was occasionally crossfiring also. Camshaft retard is adjusted after verifying the base timing. I invested in Diacom software which has already payed for itself in saved labor charges. It allowed me to adjust the camshaft retard while the engine was running. I not sure if i would of known the camshaft retard was off without it. A timing light sets base timing fine but not cam retard.
BTW.. it is normal for the 7,24 or 58x sensor not to show in the software.
