I have a 2003 1903 trophy with a 2003 125HP Merc Classic. We jsut bought the boat this summer.
Background
We have never been able to get above 4300RPM. The latest runs had us limited to about 4000RPM with a lighter load than before. Looking at the prop calculators suggests that the 13.25 by 21 is too aggressive and we have a 19P to try. We are getting up to 33-35mph. The gas was probably put into the boat in May 2007...with stabilizer but it is getting near 1.5 years now.
QUESTIONS
#1.) Given that this is the last chance for an underwarrantly check-up and winterizing what should we look for? Compression? Accuracy of the tach? Computer Codes? What else?
#2) Should we just toss the gas so it isn't 2 years old starting next year?
#3) Anyone know if the temperature gauges on these motors are accurate. Ours barely seems to move (it does a little). The previous owner's marina said this was normal due to the location of the sensor.
