This problem cropped up 3-4 years ago and I thought it was related to fuel pump diapragms leaking, but now I'm not sure. The last time this happened I checked the pumps and they were fine. The motor usually starts with the touch of the key, and always starts right off the trailer with the touch of the key. Sometimes after fishing one spot for a while (maybe 30-60 minutes) the motor is really hard to start. I recently noticed after I didn't think I was getting home, that if I tilted the motor up (like I was draining the fuel in the throttle bodies) that the motor started. It is as if the float in the VST is sticking and not letting any fuel go to the injectors and that by tilting the motor I am freeing it up. This seems to be getting worse, but I'm really not sure what is causing this. If I take it to a shop for an intermittent problem I doubt they will be able to fix it. The other thing I have noticed is that the motor smokes a lot on start up after fishing a while, like a lot of fuel is pooling in the throttle bodies. Any ideas?
