Looking for ways to maximize the performance of my used Tohatsu 5HP 4-stroke. Looking at:

1) 6HP carb replacement
2) Going to 9" pitch prop (found at http://www.tohatsu.com/accessories/prop.html )
3) Anything else that might help...

I plan to use the motor on a 10' inflatable, air floor. The boat is pretty light, I think the motor + boat might be 100 lbs. Plus me and the gas tank, maybe 300 lbs total.

Initial trials this week, calm to mild seas, and I could not get the boat up on plane at WOT. (I could with a 2-stroke 5 HP Nissan). Will try to check RPMs if I can, (see other post re: optical tachometer...)

Hoping I can tune this to allow planing with me and 2-3 little kids, or ideally 2 adults and a kid or two... maybe up to 500 lbs.

Any advice much appreciated!

Get the 3R4032001M CARBURETOR ASSY, MFS/NSF6A2 $110.97 from any dealer, including me. VERIFY WOT RPM with a real tach, and decide on whether you want a prop change based on that info.

Going to a 9 pitch is a mistake...Drop down a wee bit more.
