We just purchased this motor on a lund fisherman 1700. We were told by the dealer that Ficht motors were really good. After talking to several people we were told that Ficht has a problem with blowing up. Does anyone have any imput for us on these motors? We would appreciate it.

Hi krubyboo...welcome to the forum.

The original FICHT engines produced by the OMC Corp. had lots of problems. The problems all boiled down to poor quality control of parts and design flaws. When the OMC Corpl went bankrupt, the Bombardier Corp. bought up the OMC Corp. The FICHT engines went through what could be called a redesign. The new products, FICHT engines, are really a new breed when compared to the originals. Follow your owners manual and ask your dealer any questions you may have and I believe you will find the engine a very worth while investment. By the way, the Bombardier Comp. also builds jet planes, sea doos, and all other kinds of neat stuff.

OBJim :D
