I just took my boat in for the post breakin check. They told me it was done and when I went to talk about a couple of issues, I asked them exactly how many hours I had on it and if they could verify the extra oiling as programmed into the engine's computer, was now turned off. They told me they did not know, that they actually did not hook up the software to see what is going on, etc. That this engine does not allow that and even if it was still incorrectly making extra oil mix, they would have to send the unit back to be replaced. I thought this ficht computer engine allowed them to see all kinds of things and that they would look at it as a matter of just general checkup of the engine. Am I wrong, is this something they do not do. Is it right for the dealer not to hook up a laptop to check things out? Can they not change some variables in the programming for whatever reason.

Also, this 17.5 Aquasport porpoises pretty bad and did not experience any additional speed when I dropped a 115 FICHT from a 90HP Jhonson (both new) - you may remember we addressed this earlier last month - they told me the porpoiseing will no go away as they installed a transom wedge. Does this make sense? They also told me the prop was spun out - what does that mean - can a prop spun out get me home or render the incapacitated - I got home just fine?

I don't know the answer to all of your questions but a spun prop hub will usually only grab to ~1500-2000 rpms or so and pretty much limits you to a slow speed.

Its a matter of routine that you hook up the laptop anytime the motor comes in for service. Especially after break in. Thats the only way for them to know if it kicked any codes and when.

The computer clock only counts time after a certian rpm. Idle hours do not count. Even if its still adding extra oil its nothing to be concerned about. I know some people reset the break in mode on purpose.

Wedging the motor for more negative trim may cure the bounce but it will most likely slow you down too.

I'll stand by what I said earlier -- on that boat you may only see a tiny, perhaps none, speed difference between the two motors unless the first was set up horrible and this one is set up perfect.

Just to clarify a few things, the computer (EMM) counts all the engine running time, including idle and can display the % of time at various rpms. The break-in clock only counts the time above 2500 rpm. For example, if someone did not break the motor in per the manual and just putted around at low speeds, the EMM could show 10 hours of total time, but maybe only 2 hours of double-oiling (above 2500).
