I have a 2003 Johnson J140PX4STS, 4 stroke . I had starting issues while on vacation. I have replace the starter and engine power cables which gets the engine started.
It now has a 2-2 check code blinking and is in failsafe mode. There is no longer an audible tone when the key is turned to on. This code for the Suzuki df140 is for CTP sensor(closed throttle position). I cannot find the Johnson codes so not sure if they match up. I have replaced the throttle body with CTP sensor and am still getting the 2-2 check code after installing. I have continuity when throttle is closed and none when open, testing the CTP to body ground.
Any ideas on what to try next? Is the 2-2 code the same for a DF140 and my Johnson 140?

For some background, I purchased this in 2018

For some background info, I bought a 2003 Hurricane GS201 w/ 2003 Johnson 140 FI 4stroke in 2018. After the maiden voyage I discovered the steel plug/engine holder corrosion. This was threaded, aluminum plugged and welded. The engine was obviously neglected, but I have done almost all 500-1000 service maint on the engine. Before the starter/power wire failure I had completed the following in the last year. Low pressure fuel filter, tank to motor fuel lines w/ primer bulb, oil & filter, lower unit fluid, impeller w/ case, thermostat, spark plugs, zincs, lower unit bolts(what a fight at first), total boat rewire, 3 battery system w/ 2 house deep & 1 extra cca start, battery selector w/ ACR- all fused, seastar 15a breaker-8 switch panel, new terminal blocks positive & earth-front and back, bilge pump w/ float, fuel pickup, fuel gauge, multi-rpm/indicator gauge, voltage gauge.
Since the failure I have replace the throttle body w/ CTP sensor, starter, 6ga motor to battery cables, starting relay(the original has been put back in service and working)
I have also cleaned the inside of the intake(kind of), sprayed clean under the MAP sensor, the MAP(manifold air pressure) and IAT(intake air temperature) sprayed w/ electrical contact cleaner, idle air valve sprayed w/ carb cleaner( also bought a generic with harness;no change)

Here is what I found(CC)
2-2 air intake code:
Since these motors have no air filter, the plenum, will collect crud as mine did. This can clog the MAP sensor (small black sensor on the top rear left of the air intake plenum). It can also clog the throttle body butterfly and prevent proper closure resulting in a bad fuel air mix. I removed my plenum, map, throttle body and cleaned all thoroughly with carb cleaner and rags. reinstalled without replacing the very expensive metal plenum gasket by using RTV in a thin bead.
I sprayed out the MAP, paying special attention to the port hole that feeds it, as well as the MAP sensor hole (very small).

I learned after speaking with a tech today that the 2-2 code is sometimes a phantom/gremlin code. It can be due to a short in the wiring, or bad ground, or the white wire of life/death that runs to the battery. After cleaning i inspected all closely.

Last to clear the code on your suzuki 07 or later, you have to reset the CPU using the key and kill switch.

1. Lanyard/safety removed >>> key to the run position
2. push the "start" button 3 times (it will not crank with the lanyard removed)
3. turn the key off
4. reinstall the lanyard/safety and start it.
All codes should be cleared.

Thank you for the reply. The codes do appear to be different between Johnson and Suzuki. I did not have a kill switch so I will purchase one and try the reset. I will let you know as f this process works.

Tried resetting with new kill switch key and knowledge reference. Code still there. Time to take it to the shop. Okay, this new technology is killing my budget
