2003 Johnson leaking gear oil

I've got a 2003 Johnson 150. I changed the gear oil in it a couple of weeks ago and haven't been fishing as of yet. After I got the new oil in it I cranked it up, put it in gear just past neutral and then cut it off. I've cranked it a couple of times since then, but haven't put it in the water.

After I changed the oil I changed props on the motor. I had it tilted up to help me out with this.

Yesterday I noticed some green oil (gear oil) running down the back side of the motor. It starts above the lower unit in a seperation of the pieces (not sure what it's called), which is about 8 inches above the top hole in the lower unit. The one where the oil runs out when it's full.

Is this some spillage from tilting the motor when changing props or do I have issues?

Thanks

Maybe this will work?

Its not LU oil. Its oil from your fuel/oil ixture and the gas has evaporated leaving the oil. Probably coming out the front of your carbs when its tilted up. Inspect you fuel lines, carbs, and VRO pump for leaks.

Hmmm.... didn't consider that. It does smoke like a wet leaf fire when it starts, but just on start up.

Thanks

It is easy to tell the difference between lower unit oil and two cycle oil. The LU oil smells bad(really stinky), while the two cycle oil smells a bit oily, but not bad.
