I stumbled across this forum last week becasue I had a Merc 4-stroke issue and was looking for possible cause... Throttle was locking up at high RPM's and wouldn't come down... only way out was to kill the engine... Brought boat back to dealer and researched Service Bulletins - this problem has been reported in both Yamaha and Merc Service Bulletins - a fix has not yet been engineered... WARNING: I was called by my boat Manufacturer (ProLine) on Friday and told NOT to use the boat until an emergency fix has been provided by Merc - apparently someone on the East Coast had this problem and took out a marina somewhere, and Merc is fearful of its liability... Anyone running Merc/Yamaha 225 4-stroke should check in with their dealer about getting on the list for the problem fix - they made this sound real serious to me...

More on this problem... Anyone running this engine should have alredy received a Mercury Recall Notice regarding this throttle sticking problem... They say that a fix will be available on 10/22/03... For anyone experiencing this problem - they will get you the fix immediately - just notify your dealer... Once this problem starts it will continuosly reoccur... happended to me 2 out of 3 times out... My boat is in for repair today - dealer got the fix overnighted to them... This is a real problem if you're running one engine - becasue it takes a while to get out of it... I'm running 2 of these engines and could limp on one while trying to recover... Don't wait for this to happen to you if your running a single engine - get it fixed!... Good luck... Danny
