Replacing factory prop on 2003 25 hp. Any suggestions for new prop? Are the aftermarket props that much better than the factory and will the performance change if I don't change prop pitch? Thanks.

Re: 2003 Merc 25 hp prop question

We need a hole lot more info;please read the stickies at the top of the page.
Yes a prop can make a difference depending on your application your typical activities and load.Prop size will appear on the barrel or under the prop nut. Diameter X pitch.
something like 10 X 13.Pitch is the key number.
Also need present performance; RPM very important and speed by gps is best.
Tell us about your performance and any problems you want to dsolve.

Re: 2003 Merc 25 hp prop question

Sorry about the lack of information. Current setup is......

-Tracker Grizzly 1648
-2003 Merc 25 hp 2 stroke with factory 10 3/8 x 13 aluminum prop
-Unsure of actual hull weight but assume a load of 600 lbs + hull weight
-Just bought boat so don't know exact speed but I think it will run 27 -28 mph with a light load (250 lbs)
-The hub is spun on the current prop so I am researching replacements, specifically SS props.

I can buy a SS Vengeance 13p locally. Is the Vengeance a good choice for this setup? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: 2003 Merc 25 hp prop question

I can't help with details on the Vengence.Of course a ss will usually help performance but at 2 to 3 times the cost of al.You might check into the Turning point Rascal.
al. with close to stainless performance.A pretty agressive prop and you really need to know your rpm and speed to make a selection. You can get your prop rehubbed and
get a base line performance. You can keep it for a spare.
Also check your motor height. The antiventplate(just above the prop)should be visable at speed.Usually ends up even or slightly above the bottom.
In the extreme you could gain a couple of mph.
