going to buy a boat today, it has twin 250's on it. one of them clipped a coral head at about 35-40 kts. i can see that the prop shaft is bent when i spin the prop by hand it spins freely but i can see a slight wobble in it. the prop did not get damaged when it hit the coral head but the skeg has a huge chunk taken out of it.
my question what other problems should i look for in this engine, what kind of cost are involved in rebuilding the prop shaft.
any other input you might have would be great

the engine is a 2003 mercury efi 250.

thanks

Re: 2003 merc 250hp bent prop shaft

Depending on how much the shaft is bent, it could be straightened in a press. The gearbox needs to come off and be stripped down to get the shaft out. While it's apart, have the pinion and forward gear crack tested. Straighten/replace the propshaft... Good to go...
