I have a 2003 Mercury 115 four stroke with fuel injection. This is my second year running the engine. First year no problems. This year, first time out at speed (4000- 5000 RPMs) an alarm goes off (beeeeeeeeeeeeep) and stays on until I drop to idle.

I take it in to the dealer. 1st visit – blame stuck thermostat, 2nd visit – replace thermostat and impellor and it is still doing it. Beeeeeeeeeeeeep. The dealer is trying, but I don’t think he has a clue.

Help!

This boat was completely set up by the dealer, per factory specs (I guess). It is a Sea Pro SV1900CC.

Jeff,

Try this. Crack your oil plug to the last thread see what drips out and how much ? Is it pure oil or is it a milky mixture. Did the dealer put a higher Temp T-Stat in there if so that will not fix the problem. P.S. Its not Condensation !!!!

An “expert mechanic” from Mercury is visiting my dealer today to help diagnose my alarm problem.

They are trying. I just wanted to update the readers. This is a great site for info.

Jeff,

After the "expert" has looked at it try what I have said above. I think there is a Class Action Law Suit in the works. I am starting the paper work. I am convinced that there is a serious design problem in the 115 hp / 4 stroke / Merc / Yama engines. I will post at a a later date with more info....I will be collecting names and Ser#

TUCKER1

Wow Tucker, I did not realize there were so many alarm problems with this engine.

I have not picked the boat up from the dealer, but they say it is fixed. The Mercury guy said it was a faulty oil sensor causing the alarm to go off.

This is the third “guess” as to the cause of the problem. I hope that it is fixed.

I did look at the oil as you suggested and it looks like oil should look.

I will watch my post to see if you can use any of my info for future reference.

Two full days on the water and no alarm.

Just to close the loop on this.

It appears that it was the oil-sensing unit. The problem was fixed under warranty.

Enjoy your summer.

You seem to have some insite into these 115 mercury engines. I have 2 that have lost 1000 rpms at the same time. They all of a sudden will not go over 4000 to 4200 rpms. They used to cruise along at 5200 before with no problem. Throttle seems to be opening all the way. Am at loss can you help?
