I have a used 2003 225 mercury 4 stoke. It idles smooth but when you try to get up on plane the engine bogs down Ive been trying to get a diagnostic program to run some tests. But i havent been able to get my hands on a mercury diag. set. The motor had been sunk in the ocean for a bout an hour. and has some light oxidation. Some of the electronics i fear are suffering from resistance problems becuase of the oxidation but im trying to narrow down what would make the power drop off under load. My guess would be the coil packs but i dont know much about this motor. If you have any ideas please write back.

What kind of boat? How did you choose your prop?
How is boat loaded? The problem may not be related to engine taking a dip.

hello
I doubt the software will help. time for a service manual and a cool refeshing beverage. put away all tools read the manual. then read it again.
then if your not absolutly sure how to test and troubleshoot a TCI or battery CD ign. then stop and quit.
if your confident you understand how the ign works the go to the fuel section, keep reading until your confident you can trace the fuel from the tank to the injector. once you have those two the do a spark and compression test to verify if your engine is mechanically sound. how did it sink? who recovered it and did it ever run properly after the recovery.
good luck and keep posting

Caliber: Rodbolt's advice is great; Let the mind do its thing.
I probably should keep quiet 'cause I've only seen four strokes from a distance. However, consider this. Does the motor seem like it will get the boat on plane, then bogs down literally as you describe? If it shows power then loses it, that sounds more like a fuel supply problem than an ignition or prop problem.
If it never shows signs of much power, that could be any of the things mentioned above, including too much prop.

It is almost impossible to get all the salt out of the wiring and connectors after being dunked...no matter how well you flush it. The motor may be ok now but be prepared to see electrical issues popping up as time goes by...especially if it has EFI.
