I just pulled the heads off my newly acquired boat with a 2003 5.7 GI-C. Valves were sticky. Risers were leaking slightly. I am curious if anyone has installed the Mercruiser Dry Joint style manifolds and risers on their Volvo with success.

Should you happen to have not much luck with this question online... There is one company I'm able to think of that "might" be able to help give you some additional advice if this is easily possible or not for what ever reason mainly due to they claim to have worked on exhaust system designs along side of Mercruiser. If so than maybe they'll know something about converting over with Volvo as they mention Volvo exhaust within their site as well....Just a guess on my part but may be worth a call to see.

PPT?fs roots trace back to starting a career in the engineering department with Mercruiser in the early 1990?Œs. During our time of employment with Mercury Marine our primary focus was within the Marine Exhaust and Marine Cooling System engineering project groups. The following historical timeline was put together outlining a few products the owners of PPT were directly involved with at bringing to production. This product experience allows us to provide our customers with a higher level of technical customer service expertise when selecting the best Marine Exhaust product options for their particular applications.

the angles are different between the volvo elbows and mercruiser manifolds. however if your creative, you can get anything to work.

Thank for the info I will give that company a call and see what they say. Has anyone got this to work with the different angles? It seems like a much better design. I wonder if you could machine a bit of an angle on the riser since to makeup the anlge difference. I guess then you would run into tapping longer threads and worry about hitting the water jacket.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... I ain't tried it, But,....

I'd guess some of the accessory holes are different, 'n check the diameters of the connectin' hoses,...

I've seen it tried from Merc to OMC,.....
The outlet diameters were all 1/2" different, 'n none of the accessory holes lined up,.....

Alright well sounds like I'm not going to be the guinea pig on this one. Does anyone have any reccomednations on which risers/manifolds hold up the longest/ best casting. I saw some that were Electrodeposition Coated is this worth the extra $150 or so dollars?

OEM. If going aftermarket, possibly Barr. Are you using it in saltwater?

invest in the volvo penta neutra-salt kit

Volvo manifolds or Barr manifolds. however in salt water, only going to get about 10 years out of a set of manifolds with proper flushing or the neutra-salt kit.

if this is the first your replacing the manifolds, you have gotten 14 years of service out of a 10 years service life part. consider yourself lucky you didnt take out the motor.

I will look into that neutra salt kit. I just bought the boat after it had been sitting for several years. I am pretty good with keeping on maintenance things especially risers. Got a sweet deal on the boat so I didn't care if the engine/outdrive was operational or not. I am looking at replacing the Vortec heads since the valves are all frozen and I'm sure some of the water jackets don't look great, manifolds, risers, raw water and fresh water pumps and get the injectors bench tested.

I also installed Neutra Salt on my engine. I use OEM manifolds.

I'd upgrade to stainless valves for marine
