I have a Volvo Penta 5.0GL that doesn't seem to be sending fuel to the carburetor when trying start the engine. Before I start the engine, I put the shifter in neutral, push it forward 2 or 3 times but, the carburetor is dry. If I spray starting fluid or pour a little gas into the carb, the boat runs fine. I can shut it off restart it easily....unless I let it sit for a few hours and the fuel that's in the carb dries up. I've tested my fuel pump relay, it seems to be good, I've tested my fuel pump, it seems to be good. For my testing I used https://forums.iboats.com/forum/eng...nboard-gas-engines-outdrives/414938-need-help. The issue I see is, the fuel pump relay and fuel pump, don't turn on until the engine is running and 12VDC is applied. So, how will the carb ever get fuel before starting the engine?

Don't think your helping your self starting another thread about the same issue. The last question you asked, you got an answer. Its ok if you didn't like it, could say so and we could go into more depth

You have a clogged up carb and needs to be removed and cleaned

I've tested my fuel pump, it seems to be good

So far as the other thread there are no test results from this test posting other then when pump runs, fuel comes out the line. This should be good enough to start the motor, but not enough to indicate pump can build pressure. Did you get a gauge on the line?

Sorry. I didn't realize I had another post about this same issue. I must've posted the other question a year or two a go. If you can tell me how to delete this, I will

Your right, I apologizes, didn't notice it was from March 2018. Have been involved with the same question and same issue, so caused me to weird out for a bit.

Did this just start again, and did you get the carb cleaned out good last time?

I didn't run a pressure test but, I am getting fuel to the carb but, it doesn't seem to be getting to the belly of the carb. I just pulled the piece of the carb off that has the float and it was full of fuel. If I put a little fuel in the belly, it will start just fine, It'll run without any issues and I can start/restart....until I let it sit and dry out. I guess I need to go buy a pressure guage

If you still not getting any fuel to squirt out when the throttle is pushed forward, you need to remove the carb. There is a spring and check ball inside so when the accelerator pump is moved, it seals off from the fuel bowl so fuel can be pumped in.

Note there is a inlet check ball and discharge check ball, they both have to work freely to make the accelerator pump work
