Had to put a new battery in my truck yesterday to replace the original one. When I was hoooking the cables back up there was a spark like something was left on or something like that. I know on older cars and trucks when there was a spark when hooking up the battery that meant there was a short or a constant drain on the battery but I dont know about these new vehicles. Is that normal on a late model vehicle?

A small spark is normal. This is providing you didn't reverse the polarity...There are capacitors in abs and air bag system that need to be recharged. Even the cap in the alternator will spark when reconnecting...

I imagine if I'd reversed the cables there would have been one he11 of an arc....this was just a small spark. I probably wouldn't have even seen it if I'd installed the battery durin daylight hours. I just remember how things use to be...the average shade tree wrench puller can't hardley work on a late model car now days.

Spark is normal. And don't freak out if your truck stalls the first few times you come to a stop light. Or if the idle varies up & down. Every fuel injected GM product that I have ever disconnected a battery in, seemed to have to "learn" how to run & idle properly again.
