your control box may be different than mine since mine is for a '96 merc 225, but try this :<br />remove the cover and look for the 3 inch round plastic disc that separates the throttle from wher it enters the box. on the control box behind the plastic disc there should be 2 holes with black set screws. one is for throttle tension and the other is for the detents. mine has very small print embossed on the box to tell you which screw is for which setting so you may need a flashlight to be able to see it . good luck
