2004 150 yammies

I have the opportunity to purchase new twin 150's (carbureted) yamahas for my 24' Grady. I have no personal experience with yammies, but i suppose there like any other outboard....there only as good as they operated and serviced. I take very good care of my "toys" and perform all of the easy maintenance tasks on them religiously. Are there any peculiarities about these engines that i should be aware of? Is the efi worth the extra $? Thank you for your replies.

Reliability of the Yamaha 150 carb motors has been outstanding. Very easy for the owner to maintain and service.

Ill second what Ray says.<br /> routien maint to include fuel pumps,complete pump kits ,t-stats and pressure valve gommets. keep the fuel system clean. if they are 25" motors check the drive shaft bushing every few years,and follow the 100 and 200 hour or yearly service in the manual.<br />change the remote oil tank filters once per year.<br /> these motors can go a long long time.

thanks for the info. That's pretty much what i've been hearing. O.K. here's a dumb question. In terms of gas mileage, am i looking at less than 1, or say 1.5 mpg with these twins? I've got a 100 gallon tank on board and am concerned if i need another 50 gallon auxillary. I know there's an infinite number of factors, i.e. hull design, climate conditions, operating weight etc., etc. In fact, yamaha publishes certified testing of their engines with different hull designs on their website, but there's no info on twin 150 carbed engines. Seeems as though they're push hp's and four strokes.

as a base you can figgure 15 gallons an hour for each engine at or near wot. or about anything over 4500

thanks rodbolt. Looks like if i go with the twins, i'll need the extra tank of fuel. Does that same formula work for four strokes as well?

For what its worth I have a 21' Grady 208 cuddy with a single 1995 Yam 175. Under ideal offshore conditions I can run 3 MPG at most. I normally figure 2.25 MPG and it goes down from there in rough conditions.
