2004 225 EFI starting issues?

Occasionally turning the key I get a click, click, and nothing else. Doesn't sound like a loose battery cable. I have checked the entire wiring harness with no noticeable loose connections.

I have heard this motor on 1 battery may do just this. Has anybody else had this problem? If it is the battery, what is the best setup for adding a second battery?

Could it be the starter may be faulty? If I should check the starter solenoid where exactly do I connect leads to test voltage drop and what other tests should I do?

Thanks,

Scott

Classic symptoms of a corroded cable connection, Scott. Take them off, clean them squeaky clean and check her out.

Tight is not good enough. Where you have a copper cable lug bolted to a steel bypass cover with a steel bolt electrolytic action will corrode the contact even when the bolt is so tight it will shear off when you try to remove it.

If you doubt it, go to Engine FAQs and do the "Outboard won't start" troubleshooting.

Good luck. :)

That appears to be the problem. I have cleaned them and will add this cleaning to my own PM schedule. Thanks again.
