Hi everybody, I thought I would tell you a little story about our boat. It's a 2004 Larson with a 3.0l Mercruiser. The boat worked decent but when trying to pull skiers or going to WOT, the motor would bog slightly. Also the smell of a slightly rich running motor was in the air and it was much less efficient than our other 3.0l. I decided to remove the spark arrestor to see if the floats or needle valve were causing fuel to drip down the carb. After starting the boat with muffs on, the choke started opening as it should but stopped before it achieved wide open perpendicular orientation. After a little investigation, it seemed that somebody prior to me owning the boat had "messed" around with the linkage. I removed the linkage and gently persuaded the linkage to allow the choke to fully open when warm. Can you say "That's how a 3.0l is supposed to work!!!" I hope this little story helps somebody else out.
