2004 5.0 GL big trim issues

I have a 2004 Glastron GX 205 with a 5.0 penta (almost positive its a GL). I've recently had the problem with the trim motor continuing in the "up" direction even after I let go of the switch (switch isn't sticking up). This obviously isn't fun when your prop decides to raise itself out of the water. A couple times when this happened, I disconnected the wires between the trim motor and the relays and it corrected itself after a few tries. This weekend, the same thing happened, but the wires on the trim motor side were melted and the connection was fried on the green (down) side. I got it to work long enough to drop the prop down and disconnected them completely. I haven't looked into it much more but I have some questions to start with.

1- Does it look like the problem is on the relay side or the motor side (relays click and are clear of corrosion)
2- If it was a bad connector, can I cut the wires back on both sides and splice in new connectors, or will I need a new motor (I didn't look yet to see how the wires go into the motor...if its something I can get into to rewire or if its sealed)
3- where's the best place to find reasonably priced replacement parts (rebuilt wouldn't bother me)

Thanks for all of your help, as I don't plan on being stuck in the middle of the Chesapeake anymore.

Could be the internals of the relay or the switch is sticking. May look fine from the outside.

It melted the wires between the relays and the motor...on the motor side of the white connector. How would I troubleshoot this? New relay fuses? How about the wire repair? I'm gonna take a more detailed look/get some pics of the motor on Tuesday. Also, I saw you mentioned the Workshop repair manual available for download for the 2004 5.0gl is in a sticky. I couldn't find that...any hints?

Its kind of hard to see, but on the white half of the connector (relay side), the post inside the green wire is burnt looking. Its odd though since it was getting stuck trimming up (blue). If any of this matters, here are the numbers on the side of the trim motor.
volvo penta 3587079
SAE j-1171
079-006119 (in a white box)
I see the top can be unbolted on the motor, but I wanted to check and make sure it was ok to do (gaskets/things that need replaced if I do?) before I jumped into it. Hopefully its just a bad connector and I can put a new end on the motor and relay side. Let me know what you think! Thanks a ton for your help.
