2004 9.9 mercury half power

i checked compression have 120 psi in both cylinders top cylinder fired for a little bit after compression check then quit again is this a carburator problem

You should have spark even if the carb is off the engine. look for what ever makes the spark and start there. your manual should have a trouble shooting guide with the proper steps to track this down. then replace the bad part and your rockin again.

i did,nt take off the carb wondering why i have spark good compression but top cylinder still not firing

I just had the same problem and its solved now. Read my "Half Power" posts from yesterday. My merc 9.8 ran slow on half power (Just like a one cylinder) and would not speed up.. I have checked the coils and I thought one was faulty. But it was not the case. I had to return that part and replaced with the black black "Pulse Regulator Box" before the coils that was shorted out.

Yes, I've purchased a new one today, replaced it and all is well now. Puuuurrrrs like a kitten! That is most likely what you need to do. However, it costs about $300.00 bucks!

You can email me your engine picture (with coils view) and can tell you if it looks similar to mine..
