So I finally got my boat out this year, and it idled well and had good speed. After a few hours tubing (plenty of screams and giggles), I decided to check the rpms at WOT on the way home and noticed it reached 5000 compared to the usual 5500. The boat has been garaged with fuel stabilizer and run on the hose back in the early spring, but otherwise it has been sitting. I did not know if I should just try to run it a few more times and see if it improves or get some sort of fuel treatment or take it to the shop. Thanks for the help.

Lets start with a fresh tank of gas and in it put about 8 oz of Sea Foam per 5 gallons for a few tanks. Then go from there.

I have an '02 90.

Thanks for the reply. I have the fresh fuel and am going to try again this afternoon. I didn't find the sea foam at boat US but I did get a mercury branded cleaner. I wonder if it is the same. Also, is it true I can push in the choke at WOT to see if I have some clogged jets. Thanks.

For the initial run, I would put a considerable amount of cleaner in the tank to clean up any existing mess then you can back off to a "recommended maintenance level" later when things clean up and the engine gets to running right.
