So I just purchased a used crestliner 2004 1600 super hawk, great deal but one thing I notice it's the radio is a tape player! Not a cd .... I could see on in like 98 or older. .. I was kinda surprised I though in 04 cds ruled everything by then. .

Anyway... I'm looking to upgrade it to a cd player something cheap. .. I'll get pictures tonight. ..

Sounds like the original radio bit the dust and the PO had an older one kicking around and threw it in there.

Or the boat did not originally have a radio at all and the existing unit was installed by the previous owner(s).

Don't feel bad. When I purchased a new Harley ElectraGlide Classic in 2007, they recently introduced the CD radio for it.. priot to 2006 they used a tape player type of radio. Some manufacturers are just simply a LOT behind the times. Unless you need an amplified radio, then there should be a good selection to be found for around $150. Good luck on your replacement radio research.

When I installed the first stereo in my boat it was a tape deck system. Garage sales are great, cost $6.00 for the whole setup (IIRC). I've since upgraded but it was still inexpensive.
