Hey everyone, its been a while - the Crown has been running great for years now!! Unfortunately age and hours are catching up!

2 issues have popped up this year.... intermittent trim issues, down always works up doesn't work sometimes, from what I have noticed, the Volt gauge registers the switch (Voltage momentarily drops like its calling for power) but trim motor doesn't activate, if I drive the boat or fiddle with shifter it will work. This boat has a trim switch on the swim platform as well, I disconnected this switch to check if that was the issue, but nothing changed.

I have also started to have an issue shifting into reverse - its not smooth and grinds into gear, not the usual small clunk.

Any thoughts or ideas for me?

Thanks in advance!!

trim limit switch wiring is bad, and might be a sticking/worn lower shift cable

Trim limit switch and the shift interrupt switch are my bet.
you can easily tell of the latter is working. Have someone at the helm operating the reverse to neutral and back (with engine off) and make sure the switch is activated visually. If it is, then start the engine in neutral then press in the switch with a screwdriver and make sure you hear the engine drop the rpm. It’s very obvious.

Thanks everyone, I'll check that tonight...the trim limit relay and wiring, is that attached to the trim motor or under the helm?

For the trim issue you may need to take off the remote handle and inspect the wiring. Blue=up green=down, it gets frayed from the constant movement of the handle. Sometimes the trim switch itself goes bad and if you can still get one they can be replaced.

grinding going into gear is prob a sticky worn shift cable. When they get worn it moves the shift mechanism too slowly with a dog clutch drive that causes grinding shifting into gear. For a no grind shift the shift must be quick.
