Greetings,

Thanks for the info. I am having a lot of fun reading through the information. I am looking at a 2004 Fundeck 170 with a 90HP Johnson OB. I'm in Rochester NY and will use it mostly on small to medium sized lakes (maybe Ontario on a calm day).

A few questions though:
  • I am looking at a 2004 170, any worries about this vintage / hull? Sometimes there are model specific things that fellow owners know.
  • It comes with a Johnson 2 Stroke 4 Cyclinder 90 HP outboard. The boat is rated for 135, so this is just under 70%. A lot of others advertised seem to have the 115HP. But the seller says that the Johnson is 4 Cylinder while some of the 115's are not. The top end may be slower but the torque from 4 cylinders may be better for water sports. Any thoughts?
  • Seller says that the boat, motor and trailer weighs in at about 2700lbs. But the specs for the boat list 1200lbs. Engine s about 350lbs. Would the trailer be over 1000lbs or is he off somewhat.
  • Tow vehicle is rated for 3500lbs. Trailer does not have brakes but I am thinking of adding them. Anyone have comments on this?
  • It has the D rings for a tow bridal but I see some models have a pylon or tub mounted just forward of the engine. Is this as simple as adding the pole or does the hull have to be changed (think I read about reinforcing the glass).
  • Anyone with similar model / year / motor?
  • Can you use an aftermarket bimini or is the mounting difficult. It is an interesting floorplan.
  • Kids want water sports. Wife wants pontoon floor plan. I want to be on the water. Looks like the right type of boat? Any thoughts?

Thanks so much. Happy boating.

I think I answered one of my own questions by reviewing older posts. Trailer can be 500-800lbs and someone mentioned the weight of the fuel. Duh! Never had to worry about that with the sailboat. So If I am concerned I can plan ahead to fill up at the destination - freeing several 100 pounds for luggage and such.

John

Just seeing this so I'll add some more feedback.....

- Don't worry about that Hull... The one I had was 9-10 years old and had no issues (again, deep V, handles well)

- The seller is right, some 115 aren't 4 cylinders, but the rating at the prop is what's evaluated so 115HP is 115HP. The bigger difference would be in a 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. 2 stroke engine will provide better lower end torque vs a 4 stroke (simply, producing power on every 2nd stroke, vs every 4th stroke) If you plan on watersports with lots of weight on board, you may not find the 90 does everything you want. 115HP is still think is still the sweet spot

- Don't know the weight of the trailer, but would guess by the one I had it would be 500-600lbs. Add the boat, 1200lbs, and 300-350 for the engine, and a belly full of fuel and gear, and you'd be mid 2500.

- I pulled the same configuration with my minivan. Braking will take a little longer (marginal) Yes, brakes would be great, but not necessary if you have a decent tow vehicle (SUV type) with solid brakes.

- for the ski pole, you can add it. It passes down thru the transom and bolts to the cross member below it. This again would be for water skiing. If tubing, stick to the bridal off the transom rings as you've mentioned.

- with the straight walls on the boat, shouldn't be too difficult to add an aftermarket bimini to it.

Good luck....
