TL;DR
Want to replace exhaust riser and manifold. Cant seem to find a DIY. Thank you.
Hi everyone.
Please excuse my noobiness in the following post.
Basically got my first boat a couple of weeks ago. 2004 Bayliner 175 with a 3.0 Merc.
Boat hasn't been in the water since last year but was de-winterised by a local shop.
Put it on the water (lake) and within 30min it started over heating.
Brought it into my garage, took off the stern drive and looks like the water intake hose was closed up with grease/salt etc.
Over the last week made sure to clean out the intake hose etc. Replaced the waterpump/impeller and all seals. Cleaned it all up in the stern drive, replace gear oil.
While doing all of this found an exhaust flap loose in the sterdrive. Took off the exhaust riser, replaced flaps. Replaced riser/manifold gasket. All back together.
Ran on land with a hose. Water coming in nicely, but too nicely, as it's spraying from the riser/manifold flange.
Took it apart again, looks like riser is pretty worn up and clogged up (by the service records it has Not been changed in 5 years and boat has been in salt water). So figure I replace the riser/manifold as I'd rather know that my "new" boat is ready to go.
However, I cannot find any DIY help on removing the exhaust manifold (videos or diagrams). I'm new to working on marine engines so don't want to tear it down and miss a cruciial step. I've tried searching on forum here but I'm too new/frustrated at this point and can't find anything. Any help is greatly appreciated!
