2004 Mercruiser 3.0L manual is a joke! Alternatives?

I hate to sound like a troll on my first post but here goes:
I just bought a nice used 2004 Bayliner with the 3.0L Mercruiser. I'm an ex-aircraft mechanic (A/P...airframe/powerplant) so I would like to think I know at least a little more than the average guy about engine maintenance and repair...anyways, I broke open the engine manual to get my boat ready for it's first outing and could not believe HOW BAD it is written. To me, using this manual would be like working on my Chevy Trailblazer with a repair manual for a Ford Explorer. LOL.
Are there any alternatives? Something like the Clymer for my motorcycles...

Check out the sticky section for adults only and there you will find manuals for your engine and outdrive.

Good Luck and Welcome aboard

The Mercruiser manuals are pretty good actually. Way better than VP's swinglish, the old OMC, and pretty much every american OB manual ever made. True they are laid out differently than Jap engine manuals.
What section of the book is giving you trouble?
PS... Merc manuals are made for those who went threw Merc school. I would probably look at one of your airframe/pplant manuals and go "say whaaaaa"

Oops, guess I should have looked around here first. The manual here IS NOT the one that came with the boat, and will do fine. Thanks.

I have a 2004 Mercruiser manual for ALL their engines...it reads like it was written in japanese, then translated to French before being written in English. Also, the pics don't match the text, doesn't seem to follow any sort of order, will list parts without refering to which engine they are talking about, etc.

Which number manual did you download?
Did you read the "How to Use This Manual?"

...and could not believe HOW BADLY it is written.

Sorry, couldn't let the irony pass...

Glad you got the correct manual though.
