Hi guys I hope someone might be able to help. I have a 2004 chaparral 215ssi with a 5.7l GL volvo in it. The boat ran great the past 5 times I've taken it out. Recently we were cruising at about 3k rpms and it went into "limp" mode and started beeping. Long story short, it runs great up to about 2500 rpms then won't let it Rev any higher and starts beeping at about 1200 rpms. I limped it home at about 1k rpms about 2 miles and now am here. It just was at the shop getting new risers manifolds, all new fluids etc in march to get ready for the summer. The motor has 466 hours on it. Can anybody help me out here? Dealer has a 3 week backlog and I'm handy with a wrench. Thanks for any help

Have you had it out since all the work was done? 3 Things will cause an alarm loss of oil pressure, Hot engine, hot exhaust system. My $$ is on the exhaust. Dealer may have put to much sealant on the riser gaskets and the excess is inhibiting water flow. You can check this by seeing how hot they get when running. They should be quite warm but not hot. You should be able to place your hand on them. If your oil pressure is fine and your engine temp is good, that's the first place I would check. Wouldn't hurt to check your raw water impeller at the same time.

Yes I've had it out 4 or 5 times since the work was done a minimum of 6 or 7 hours ran I'd say with no issues then this problem

Any one of the switches that detect low oil pressure, high temps or hot exhaust can go bad and your gauges will still read fine because they are totally separate senders. Should be able to remove the wires of each one of them one at a time until you see which one is causing your issue.

OK great thanks for the tip, I will try that. My question now is if I put the boat back in the water will it start beeping immediately since the code hasn't been cleared? Or only start beeping oncve something overheats or detects low pressure? Thanks in advance

A GL designation Volvo of any block size is carbed, and has no "computer" or codes to throw. The alarm sounds based on simple electronic switches reacting to overheat, overtemp exhaust, or low oil pressure.

I also don't see how a GL could have a limp mode, based on this. Are you sure you don't have a fuel injected motor?

You were exactly right. I looked again at the motor and it is actually a 5.0l fuel injected volvo. Sorry for the wrong info, I was going by the ad the guy listed on boat trader, apparently he was wrong.
