Need a motor for my '84 20 foot grady white CC 204 fisherman. Going to look at a 2004 yamaha 200hp 2 stroke on weds. It's at a longime, reputeable, local marine engine shop. It's a complete rebuild with controls & a 1 year warranty. I DON'T know if its an ox66 or hpdi....i believe both were available in '04? And, the price is well within my means....the 200hp g2 etec i want, really isn't 😳. Sooooooo....based on the amount of yamahas in local waters, can i assume theyre dependable motors? What are the differences between the ox66 & hpdi? Any reason why i would NOT want one or the other? What should i expect with either? I know my questions are very vague and general, but info i find on the 'net is very dated, 2010 & earlier. Just looking for some current thoughts.

Both have excellent reputations for reliability and long life. The HPDI is more or less an OX66 with a different type of fuel delivery system. HPDI is better on fuel efficiency but more complicated with more to go wrong. Just keep up with the fuel system maintenance and you should be fine.
