2004 Yamaha Carburated a Good Choice?

I am considering a used 19? Seapro Fish and Ski with a 2004 Yamaha 150 carburated 2 stroke.
I will be doing a lot of trolling (with a trolling plate). Is this engine a good choice for extensive running at slightly above idle?
I have been holding out for a fuel injected or 4-stroke assuming better gas consumption and running at idle.
Plus not having to rebuild 6 carbs occasionally.
Any Input? Thanks

It would have to all depend on the maintenance/repair history and the present running condition of the motor, is it a freshwater or saltwater motor? Do a sea trial with boat/motor before purchase. If you like the way it runs and the price suits you, then go for it...then install a fuel/water separator and learn to drain each carb a couple of times a year and especially at lay-up times, to prevent water/debris from plugging your carb jets. A fuel stabilizer like Stabil or Seafoam will be helpful also. Good Luck!

I have a 2001 2-stroke carb'd yamaha. I love the motor for what I do, but would not like it for a lot of low speed work. It idles a little rough and is loud even at low RPMs.
Great power and a nice growl when running across the water, but for trolling I don't see it being the best option.
The engine is as close to bulletproof as they come though so if reliability is high on your list it's worth a look.

my first was a 1989 175 v6, about 5000 hrs when i sold it, no major problems, now have a 2005 150 , again no major problems, however carbs were a issue, even with 10 micron filter, however i knew as soon as the idle got a little rough, i pulled carbs, cleaned, back to normal, carb'ed motors are easier to work on vs 4 stroke however should not need to be worked on, tough call
