The motor was running good today. Was idling around a bridge fishing, no problems. When I went to give it gas to fish another bridge the motor started to shutter like it was hitting the bottom or something. Lifted the motor no rope in the prop was in 30 foot of water. Idled for a mile tried it again same deal. No horn or light. Motor has 160 hours on it. Use seatron ethanol stuff all the time. Got back to the hill, started right up on the hose, Could rev the enigne with no hint of a miss or skip. Any help would be great. Im off all week and want to fish

Re: 2004 Yamaha f115 NEED HELP!!

sounded like you weren't getting fuel, this what has happened to me.

First check to see if you have water in your main fuel/water separator also check the secondary one on the engine. If the reservoir is of full gas it won't pass through fast enough to get past 700rpms.

Second, check the vent on your gas tank, if this is clogged and you ran around for awhile it will build a large vacuum in the tank, which will slowly re-equalize when you finally get it back home and fire it up, making it seem like you don't have a problem.

I keep a 2gal gas can on my boat in case I run out of gas and also if I have a problem somewhere in my main fuel line, you can unhook the fuel bulb and drop it right in the can to make it home.

Cheers,

Josh

The in-line filter on the engine is typically small in comparison to the main [external] fuel/water separator filter - but it still filters the same amount of fuel. When the external (spin on filter) is changed the smaller one on the engine might not get replaced or cleaned. The bottom line is that the one on the engine can still get gunked up even though it's the second filter in the system. A restriction anywhere in the fuel system is going to be a problem. Just a thought.

Another thought. Had the same problem, same engine. Did some extensive towing with an over pitched prop. Thought the motor was going to shake itself off the transom. Fouled the plugs. Correct prop and a heavy dose of YAMAHA, RING FREE and new plugs fixed the problem. I no longer tow. FRED
