2005, 90 hp e-tec emm?

My neighbor has a 2005 90 hp e-tec. The emm computer box is shot. Is there ant chance of buying a used one that would work? New ones are above his budget.

A used one is a 50-50 shot at best. DFI Technologies can fix them.

The EMM must be characterized to his motor's injectors. A used one, not properly characterized, one could do considerable damage. I don't think DFI does E-Tec EMMs, only Ficht's. BRP may have an exchange program. I would call BRP customer service.

BTW, how does he know the EMM is shot?

Have him call BRP customer service at 1-847-689-7090 and talk to them. I have the same question as wilde1j, how does he know it's bad??

Thanks for the replies. It was diagnosed by a local marina. I'm not familiar with brp or dfi technologies. I will advise him to call brp.

You want only a BRP E-Tec certified dealer working on this motor. Any old marina won't do. No matter what, this is likely to be an expensive repair.

You need an Evinrude E-TEC trained tech to do your troubleshooting and repairs. They will have the knowledge and the diagnostic software tools to do the job efficiently and correctly, plus only a dealer can exchange an EMM as the engine diagnostic report and special file to transfer the engine info to the new EMM.

You cannot buy a spare EMM like you can a coil or a fuel pump. Each EMM has the engine serial number burned into its permanent memory plus each of the injector's flow characteristics are recorded also.
