HI everyone I am new to the forum and could use some help.
When I start the motor, either hot or cold, it will run as long as the starter
position is engaged. When I let it drop back to run it stops. The primer bulb
was squeezed till hard. I jumped the run position on the key switched but still
have the same problem. It will do this 3 or 4 times and then start.
I could sure use some ideas. Thanks

I jumped the purple and purple/red start wires to eliminate the potential of the key switch contacts being bad.
I bought this motor new in 2005. I squeeze the primer ball till hard and turn key to start and then release when
engine starts. as soon as I release the engine stops, either hot or cold. After a few times it does stay running.

Do you push the key in while cranking it over ?----Then push in key as required to keep it from stalling ?

Are you using the fast idle function? Depends on controls but it's either a seperate lever you raise or a button you push that allows you to advance throttle without being in gear.

Is there a system called ----" QUICKSTART "--- mentioned in your owners manual ?

The starter solenoid wire is normally yellow/red. So to bypass the keyswitch you would need to disconnect the black/yellow killer wire and connect red/purple to yellow/red, to crank that motor.

However, it is likely that the powerpack is fed +12VDC from the yellow/red (starter solenoid) wire, when the motor is cranking. This causes the powerpack to spark when the motor is cranking too slow for the stator to produce enough voltage. So your motor would run only when the starter is cranking.

So check the stator to powerpack connections and make sure they are clean. if that isn't the issue, you could have a bad stator. Alternatively, the powerpack couldbe the issue as well.
