I have a Bayliner 2005 Capri 175 excellent condition. I just received from a friend. Maintained meticulously. Filled it with gas, I took it out for the first time after it was winterized. I was told that upon 1st start after winterization the engine would burn off a lot of smoke due to the way it was winterized with oil. I never saw any smoke. It started and ran o.k. 1st time out. 2nd time out it would start up but wouldn't stay running. I tried starting and keeping it started about 20 times. Any ideas?

Not a Bayliner Capri problem, it's a motor problem.

What motor?

3.0L carbureted Alpha model MerCruiser
Not sure if it has a mercarb or tks might try advancing the throttle in neutral a bit to see
If it can stay running while warmed up
If it has a choke vs tks make sure you are setting the choke by pumping the throttle a couple times leave the throttle handle at about ten o’clock to get it running

What do the plugs look like and what’s the maintenance history might be worth pulling the fuel filter out of the fuel pump and see if there is anything but fresh gas
