I have a 2005 Four Winns Horizon 170 and there are these two holes under the jump seats in the back of the boat on either side of the engine cover. I had the boat out yesterday, and I noticed a considerable amount of engine noise (I usually have things stuffed under there so I don't normally notice) coming from these two open areas. It looks like there are snaps there that might have had a piece of canvas over the holes at one point but whatever was there is now gone. Can someone help me track down a part number for whatever is supposed to cover these holes?

I also have a considerable amount of engine noise while under power (Even with things shoved in front of these holes) - any sound deadening tips to help with that? I have the egg carton looking foam on the back side of the engine cover and it seems like its in decent condition.

My Four Winns H200 has the same thing under the jump seats in the rear. They're just access holes for the battery & trim hydraulics. My boat has vinyl curtains that snap on over the hole. They seem like something that'd be pretty easy to make with a little bit of vinyl fabric & some button snaps.

As for sound deadening, I've heard things like Dynomat and similar products work well. You just need to make sure they can withstand the heat of the engine compartment and don't provide any kind of chemical or fire hazard.

It's a 17ft. boat. Engine close to everyone. It will never be quiet, like a car or electric golf cart. The snap on covers will
do little to reduce the noise. Get used to it , and keep boating.

My old bayliner 195 had those as well. Snap covers with a battery behind one and nothing behind the other. Covers are really only to keep stuff from rolling in there not noise

Agreed with the above. The covers don't do anything to stop noise. They just keep things out & make things look nicer. Half the time I leave the battery side un-buttoned because I throw the battery tender on there between outings. The opening is hidden under the jump seat so I never see it anyhow.

The Merc 3.0 in my Bayliner sounds like a Chinook helicopter at idle  I can't believe how loud the silly thing is.

I used some fire resistant foil faced insulation board that I got from some of the insulation guys on the job site to line my engine cover and storage boxes on each side. It seemed to work pretty good for the most part but as others said you probably won't quiet it down too much. As for the covers if you know any one handy with a sewing machine they are very simple to make and the materials can be bought cheap it's just vinyl and some snaps. You can buy the snaps and the tool for around $10.

I should sound proof this but being air cooled would complicate the design of a box.

I bought the lead lined self adhesive foam and it helped a lot! be prepared to dig deep into the pocket though. 4x4 sheet is over $125. you will need two probably.
