I am posted for a friend of mine that is not mechanically inclined. We were running his 2006 115 EPLO (carb 2 stroke)this weekend and it chugged and shut off. The boat runs every week and never had any issues(old fuel etc.).

Boat would run very very poorly when cold start enrichment was on for couple seconds then act like ran out of fuel so I assumed fuel/pump/filter or carbs. Fuel/water was clean (no water) but he had the old grey merc fuel hose that I know has had some ethanol issues. I rebuilt fuel pump and had some small brown particles in it from the fuel line. Changed the inline filter....still ran same. So today cleaned all carbs (they were clean, seems like in-line caught the fuel line liner pieces.). Still the same. As I checked the plugs I realized the bottom two cylinders were warm an the top two stone cold. Replaced plugs, semi ran only when cold start was on then acted like ran out of fuel. I then checked and the top two cylinders had no spark. (bottom two did). I noticed the bottom two carbvs also didnt have AF mixture screws, does this motor run on two cylinders only at low speed?

Surely two coils didn't fail simultaneously, what esle could take out spark in two of the cyinders only?
Stator or switch box? I don't have a manual so somewhat limited in what else I can do to help.
