2005 Merc 2 stroke 90hp ELPTO lower unit interchange

I have a 2005 Merc 2 stroke 90hp ELPTO with a bad lower unit. I need to know what other years lower units fit my motor. will a Merc 4 stroke lower unit fit mine?

you may get help with repairing your lower unit, if you post what is wrong with it

I hit something at full throttle. kicked up the motor and lost reverse (it just grinds) I continued to run the motor without using reverse. The last time i had the boat out when running in foreward gear it started making a Chunk, chunk, chunk noise. I quit useing it then. I have no abnormal noise reving the motor in neutral, so i have isolated it to the lower unit.

I really just want to replace the whole lower unit as my case has quite a bit of damage on it and I'll be putting the boat up for sale in a season or two.

If it the standard carbed 90, 1998-2006 75-90hp will work and if it the Opti 2004-2006 75-90hp will interchange.

Thanks for the info. do you know if the 4 stroke lower units will fit the 2 strokes?

A 4 stroke will not fit.

I believe the 60 Big Foot and the 75 HP three cylinder lowers will also work. They all have 2.33:1 gears like the 90

Silvertip is correct that a Bigfoot 60 will work but from 98 and up only as this is a 6 jaw clutch dog.
