I have a 2005 Mercury 60 HP 4 Stroke, I am getting a Engine Malfunction Warning on the Smartcraft Monitor. It seems to happen when the engine temp gets to the 170-174 degree range. The motor is "peeing water". I have been told by a dealer that I should change the water pump every 3-5 years. My nearest dealer is 3 hours away. Is this a job I could do by myself? Any ideas what else might cause this warning? There is under 200 hours on the motor.

Ahh i wish i could tell you yes but it depends on your mechanical experience. The lower assembly has to come completely off. So the boat needs to be completely out of the water i watched someone try and pull this off in a slip and well he went diving for his lower assembly and took a trip to the local parts store. Understand that whatever(if any) warranty will be void if you take this apart yourself. The job is not crazy hard but is tedious and a skilled tech can have it done in 45min or so. The kit should be 35$ give or take. Good luck if you need directions hit me back.

Thanks for the reply, there is no warranty, I bought it from the original owner. I am not convinced it is the water pump. Guess I have to bite the bullet and make the trip to the dealer.

Did you find out what the problem was? We are experiencing the same thing.
