My 225 hpdi has a miss at low rpms. This usually happens when i first put it in gear and begin to press the hotfoot. Then, if I try to get it on plane, it can fall on it's face without backing of the throttle and quickly giving it a burst of gas (as to blow off the plugs) to start to take off again. It has no problem idling out of gear or once on plane, just at the intial acceleration. Also, this usually happens when I have let the motor cool down, but not once it has been running awhile. And it can puff out some smoke when cooled off. I had diagnostics checked and everything tested fine. Could someone tell me what is going on with the motor?

Re: 2005 yamaha 225 hpdi misses

well at least we know there are no hard failed sensors.
however the system needs to be inspected WHILE the problem is occuring not when idling on the flusher.
most likly a clogged VST or medium pressure inline filter.
have the medium pressure rail and the high pressure rail tested while the problem is occuring.
HPDI smoking is normal.
you need to have your engine PID checked against the tech bulliten for HPDI oiling issues on the 3.3L Z motors.
myself I would also test the TPS output with an analog multimeter not just the digital meter.

Thanks rodbolt. Do you happen to know the approx price for a VST and the inline filter?

medium pressure filter 80 bucks or so,VST filter about 40 bucks, takes about 1.5 hours or so to change and test rail pressures.
biggest thging is hitting it right, keep running it lean or with a defect and you will find out how much pistons and rings cost.
in addition to what popped them.
