Engine does not "pee" strong.....overheat alarm sounds over 2000rpm.....water pump and thermostat check out good....local mechanic says there was a poor design in that engine that allowed water to not escape the housing around the tube going from lower unit to the power head... should have holes for drainage.......this then leads to that water freezing in the winter and "crushing" that tube...any thoughts or ideas???

that very problem happened to ours (is yours an EFI engine) ours did pee strongly but would overheat at 1/2 or more throttle. luckily we were still under
warrantee at the time soe mercury paid for the repair. our mechanic had never seen a crushed water tube before, and was sure that we had not properly
stored the motor vertically. he did modify the case to be sure it would drain. this is the first i've heard that this is a known defect.
